Crime spree suspects back in court

Jon Hutchinson
Staff Reporter

CAMP VERDE -- Two young men apprehended in December in Jerome after a three-state crime spree will appear in court this month, one on Monday afternoon.

Zachery Schutts, 20, agreed to a plea in mid-January and will be sentenced later this month. Dakota Bryan Hall, 20, will face Judge Michael Bluff during an afternoon appearance Monday. Both are from the small town of Locust Grove, Okla.

Hall is expected to accept a plea similar to the Schutts deal that includes shoplifting from Walmart, attempted auto theft, burglary and theft from the Jerome Jewelry, criminal damage and burglary in the 3rd degree.

Since the offenses occurred in three time periods, rather than all at once, prison terms are expected to be sentenced back to back rather than all at the same time.

The pair are said to have stolen vehicles, guns and property in Oklahoma and Colorado before coming to Arizona in early December.

They attempted to shoplift electronics from Walmart before breaking into the Jerome Jewelry store.

They were eventually apprehended when numerous police, helicopters and even citizens combined to identify them as they attempted to flee from the town.

The mother of one of the young men, who wrote the newspaper in response to the arrest report, said that her son had become addicted to "spice" or K-2, but was unable to get off the synthetic drug.
