Alice Estelle LaBonte Halsey

Cottonwood resident Alice Halsey died June 20.

She was born Oct. 22, 1911 in Mountain View, Mo.

Mrs. Halsey was 89 years old.

A retired schoolteacher, Mrs. Halsey taught music and later in her career taught secretarial classes.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Merlin Halsey of Cottonwood; a twin brother, Harold LaBonte of New Jersey; two nieces, Eleanor Jo Widick of Nevada and Wanda Hedrick of Washington State and many friends and former piano students.

Two sons, Eddie Lee and Gerald Allen Halsey preceded Mrs. Halsey in death.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cottonwood.

Faye Louise Johnson

A memorial service is scheduled June 23 in West Virginia for Cottonwood resident Faye Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson died June 19 at the age of 76.

She was born May 12, 1925 in Richlands, Va.

Mrs. Johnson love to bowl and once averaged a score of 200 a game. She enjoyed the sport so much that while not playing on a league she would substitute for players whenever needed.

Mrs. Johnson loved to care for the children at her church in Anaheim. She cleaned the church four days a week.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Thompson of Cottonwood and Sheila Bechel of Texas; three sons, Paul Stewart of Chino Valley, Ronnie McGlothin of Virginia and Curt Johnson of Ohio; a son-in-law, Steve Thompson; her son's family including three grandchildren, Charles Smith and Shawn and Steven Thompson.

Mrs. Johnson's husband, Lee Johnson Jr. preceded her in death.

Burial was held in Highland Memory Garden in Logan, W. Va.6/25/01
