Cook serves up another Marauder golf victory

Stephen Cook has been Mr. Consistent for Mingus Union's golf team this season — consistently good, that is.

The Marauder sophomore won his fourth match of the fall campaign Tuesday at Oakcreek Country Club. His 39 score for the nine-hole round edged teammates Dylan Miles and Phillip Giampietro by one stroke for medallist honors.

Mingus won overall honors as well, beating Thunderbird 209-217 in the team standings. Sunrise Mountain placed third with a 235 score, followed by Moon Valley at 236.

"We could have done a little better," said Marauder coach John Uidenich. "The rain hit us a little bit toward the end. (Cook) was the only one in the 30s."

Joey Lay and Jacob Gould completed the Mingus scoring with rounds of 45.

The Marauders will play in the Bradshaw Mountain Invitational this weekend. The next two matches will be on "home" courses – at Sedona Golf Resort on Oct. 16 and at Verde Santa Fe on Oct. 20.
