Deadly accident in Cornville

On Sunday at about 1:40 a.m., 41-year-old Gary H. Huddleston of Camp Verde died as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle rollover in Cornville.

According to Yavapai County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chip Cain, while on patrol and traveling east on Cornville Road he observed a large cloud of dust and debris approximately one mile east of Desert Holly Trail.

As the dust settled he then observed a gray 1990 Chevrolet pick-up truck on its roof on the north side of the road. He immediately approached the vehicle to search for passengers but none were located. A motorist traveling in the area, 27-year-old Dallis Underhill of Cottonwood, stopped to assist Cain. As the two began to search the area, Underhill discovered the body of a male approximately 20 feet from the pick-up truck.

Deputy Cain attempted to render aid to the victim however the victim appeared to have sustained serious injuries. Cornville Fire Department arrived on scene and confirmed that the victim was deceased.

According to YCSO, it does not appear that the victim was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. It is also unknown if alcohol was a factor. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
