Wreck kills teen, injures three in Sedona

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office reported one person was killed and three injured in a single vehicle wreck on Nov. 21.

According to a police report, Chantal Echterling, 15, of Sedona, was killed. Keith Jacobson, 16, Jeremy Fazekas, 16, Daniel Knorr, 19, all of Sedona, suffered serious injuries and were transported to various hospitals via helicopter or ground ambulance.

Their vehicle, a red Honda Prelude, spun out of control and rolled, ejecting Echterling on Dry Creek Road in Sedona at about 7:30 p.m., according to YCSO. Deputies report that Echterling was pronounced dead at the scene.

The condition of the three injured is unknown.

According to Susan Quayle, YCSO public information officer, deputies determined that Jacobson was the driver. Speed is believed to have been a major factor, although the cause of the accident remains under investigation. The accident occurred at the T-intersection with Boynton Canyon Road.

Quayle said the driver and front-seat passenger were wearing seatbelts, but it is unknown whether the rear passengers, including Chantal, were wearing seatbelts.

Deputies report that the three minors were students at Sedona High School.
