A Sedona man and a Phoenix man were killed in separate accidents in the Verde Valley area.
On Friday evening at about 6:20, Sedona Fire District (SFD) emergency crews responded to a 911 call for an overturned truck in Oak Creek at the Rainbow Trout Farm Bridge located in Oak Creek Canyon. Additionally, it was reported that an occupant was trapped in the vehicle.
Arriving within two minutes, SFD Engine 551 found the occupant was trapped below the water. After being unable to force the door of the vehicle or remove the occupant through the window, the jaws of life was used to force the door.
The occupant was rapidly extricated with CPR in progress. He was then reportedly transported by SFD ground ambulance to Sedona Emergency Center, then flown to Flagstaff Medical by Guardian Air, Angel 1.
According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, the victim, Omer Muchmore, 46, of Sedona, was later pronounced dead.
A CCSO spokesperson said that it appeared that one of the wheels on Muchmore's vehicle went over the edge of the bridge. When he attempted to back out, another wheel went over the edge, causing the vehicle to roll over.
The Department of Public Safety responded to a fatal one-vehicle auto accident on Interstate 17, about three miles south of the Camp Verde exit, Monday at about 9 a.m.
According to DPS, Richard Ulwelling, 43, of Phoenix, was the driver of a 1999 Lincoln. His vehicle reportedly was headed north on the interstate when it struck the guardrail, vaulted and landed 200 feet down a ravine.
According to DPS, Ulwelling was died at the scene of the accident. The matter is still under investigation.
