As the race for three Clarkdale city council positions heats up, all six candidates are expected to attend a forum that will get right to the issues including the town's plans for a fire district.
Judy Miller is the chair for the League of Women Voters' voter service committee. She will moderate the forum scheduled for Thursday. The League and the Clarkdale Chamber of Commerce are partnering to sponsor the event.
"It's a way to educate the people and get them involved," Miller said.
Even though the primary election day is in March, the ballots are mail-ins and will be sent to voters soon. Miller said it's important that voters know all they can before making a choice.
The forum is scheduled at the Clarkdale-Jerome School, 1615 Main St. in Clarkdale.
Miller said each candidate will get a chance to give the audience a brief introduction. Then they are asked to respond to the League question, which has to do with the town's plans for a fire district. Next, audience members will have the chance to ask questions of the candidates.
"Then we ask each candidate to make closing remarks," Miller said.
Three council positions are up as well as the mayoral seat. Pat Williams, Frank Sa and incumbent Tom Groom are all running for two, four-year seats. Jerry Wiley is running unopposed for a two-year seat. Doug Von Gausig and current Vice Mayor Ellie Bauer are running for mayor.
The candidate forum is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
