The League of Women Voters of Sedona-Verde-Valley, working in cooperation with the Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce, will moderate a mayor and town council candidate forum on Feb. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Camp Verde Multi-Use Complex, 280 Camp Lincoln Road, in Camp Verde.
The forum provides an excellent opportunity for Camp Verde voters to learn candidate views on issues, raise questions, hear responses, and reach their own conclusions.
Participants will be Mitch Dickinson and Tony Gioia, candidates for a two-year term as mayor; and six candidates who are vying for three vacancies on the town council. Council incumbents John Reddell and Bob Kovacovich and new candidates Robert Johnson, Steven Kyllingstad, Ron Smith and Helen Zimmerli are seeking four-year terms.
The Town of Camp Verde uses "vote by mail" procedures. The last day to register to vote is Feb. 7; and the Yavapai County Election Department will mail ballots to all registered voters in Camp Verde during the week of Feb. 14. Voters will then be asked to return their ballots by mail, postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day, March 8. If candidates do not receive a clear majority on March 8, a runoff election will be set for May 17.
A key purpose of the League is to sponsor voter education activities. For more information about the candidate forum or the League of Women Voters, contact Judy Miller at 649-1916.
