Manuel Romero is this week's athlete of the week. He is a senior player for the Camp Verde boys soccer team and was nominated by his coach, David Miller.
Romero has been a four-year varsity player and is probably one of the most intense players to watch on the Cowboys team.
During the Grand Canyon game last Saturday, he scored all four goals for the Cowboys, equaling an amazing hat trick plus one.
During the game against Sedona on Tuesday evening, Romero fired off 14 shots, seven of which were on goal.
Romero plays midfield mainly, but is also an asset at the striker position.
"He has a pure love for the game," said coach Miller. "He and his brothers seem to play all of the time, whether in season or not."
You can see this love of the game come through when watching him in action on the field. When he gets the ball, he just explodes toward the goal when playing in the striker position, doing whatever it takes to get the ball near or in the net.
His attitude on the field is sportsman like. He seems to be always moving and attracting the ball to his side of the field like a magnet. It's easy to see that he wants the ball, and he wants to make the plays.
You can see Romero in action along with the other Cowboys at their next home game against the No. 2 team, Chino Valley, on Wednesday.
