Frank A. New

Frank Arthur New, 76, of Camp Verde, died May 12, 2006, at the Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale.

Mr. New was born in Clarkdale on March 18, 1930. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sicily, and the USS Wasp, both aircraft carriers

During his life, he served as a law enforcement officer for the Department of Public Safety. He served for 21 years in the communities of Phoenix, Apache Junction and Camp Verde before his retirement in January 1982. During his time of service in Camp Verde, he also served as the fire chief for the Camp Verde Fire Department from 1969 to 1979.

He enjoyed riding horses and raising fallow deer. He enjoyed woodworking and he was a metal fabricator and welder.

Mr. New is survived by his wife of 17 years, Juanetta New, a daughter, Roxy Ann Blakely of Phoenix, three step-children, Linda Myers (Chuck), David Zellner (Cindy) and Dan Zellner (Kathy) all of Camp Verde; a sister, Leona Ryan (Tom) of Flagstaff, seven step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at the Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Avenue, Cottonwood.

Lena Dickie

Lena Dickie, 101, a long time resident of Sedona, died May 15, 2006.

Lena grew up in Michigan where she developed her love of animals and began training them. She was active in the rodeo and became quite well known as Rodeo Rose with her horse Tarzan, who "could do just about anything, except wash the dishes."

Lena moved to Phoenix in the 1960s where she worked as an assistant to a vet and was a volunteer at the Children's Hospital. With her little dogs that pulled a miniature "wagon," Lena and her "team" passed out treats to the little children at Christmas. Lena moved to Sedona in the 1970s.

She managed the Humane Society for two years. For almost 10 years she trained quarter horses and miniatures for Bob Eggert. In 1976, Lena was featured in Horse and Rider magazine.

Lena was in the St. Patrick's Day parade with her animals 27 years. In 1996, she won four trophies including first place in the unique category. In 1997, Lena was chosen to be Sedona's Grand Marshal, along with her dog Sundancer. Lena was crowned "Queen of the Rodeo" twice in her lifetime, once in Sedona in 1993, and earlier (in the 1930s) in Michigan.

Lena was also nominated to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, and she modeled western clothing for Coral West and the Tourist Trap. She was a charter member of the Adult Community Center, member of the Miniature Horse Association of Arizona, and an honorary member of the Sedona Historical Society.

There will be a Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Sedona.

Elaine Christy Page

Elaine Christy Page, age 5, died Thursday, May 11, 2006.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18, 6-8 p.m. at Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Ave. in Cottonwood. Funeral Services will be Friday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 1377 Hombre Drive in Cottonwood.

Mary Dona Bryson

Mary Dona Bryson (Chisholm) died May 15, 2006. She was born on Dec. 16, 1915, in Flagstaff.

She is survived by her six children Eldona, Claudia, Jimmy, Bernard (Bum), Donald, and Chuck; also 16 grandchildren and 24 great grand children.

In lieu of flowers make contributions in her name to the Hospice of the Valley, Maricopa PCU 2619 E Pierce, Phoenix AZ 85008.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at the Citizens Cemetery in Flagstaff, behind NAU campus. Following the service, family and friends will have a gathering at the B+ Horse Ranch in Page Springs.
