Orlando L. Fajardo, long-time Flagstaff and Cottonwood resident, died Oct. 8, 2006, after a lengthy illness with his family at his side. Born on March 18, 1932, to Pablo and Beatrice Fajardo, he was one of 14 children.

From the school system he was asked to be part of the opening crew of Flagstaff Wescor Mall and maintained that position until he became the "supervisor of operations" at Northern Arizona University until his retirement. Following his retirement Orlando and his wife Mary moved to Cottonwood.

Orlando was very active with the Flagstaff Padre Miguel Hidalgo Knights of Columbus and was elected grand knight; he was also named as district deputy of the region on four occasions. Orlando moved from Flagstaff to Cottonwood where he continued with the Knights of Columbus, transferring his membership to the Cottonwood Verde Valley Assembly.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary L. Figueroa; his three children Tony Fajardo (Gabriele), Barbara (Fajardo) Curley (George) and Cathy (Fajardo) Duran (Fernando); brothers Joe Pasqual, Robert, Richard and Larry; sisters Fidela and Rafela; and eight grandchildren.

Evening Vigil and Holy Rosary will be Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at 224 S. Kendrick, Flagstaff. Funeral Mass will be Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
