The Marauder golf team teed it up at the Oak Creek Country Club on Tuesday against three 4A I schools. Mingus walked away with an impressive second-place finish.
Millennium led the pack of teams with a winning score of 168. Mingus followed, just five strokes behind with a 173. Agua Fria finished with a very close third 173 (Mingus' fifth man beat their fifth) and Thunderbird had a 205.
Patrick Moran continues to lead the Marauders. He shot a 40 during the nine-hole match. Nick Muehlhausen followed closely behind with a 42, Alex Ronyak shot a 47, Josh Sauntman a 52 and Ryan Roland had 44.
Roland's great score came at a really good time.
"It is always nice when the number five's score puts the team back in the running," said coach John Uidenich. "Alex would have had a much better score, but he had some trouble on the ninth hole. It is the courses number one handicap hole. Overall, the kids were pleased with their performances, as was I."
The team spent the weekend at the Bradshaw Invite and will head to Coconino to fave them, Mohave and Kingman in the last golf match before regionals at the Verde Santa Fe golf course on Oct. 20.
As a side note, coach Uidenich wanted to let all those who have helped support the golf team this year by sponsorships and donations of equipment and balls, that the generosity is greatly appreciated and they are a big reason why the golf program is such a great success. Great job sponsors.
