Abbie Monroe

Abbie Monroe, 86, of Cottonwood, died March 8, 2007. She was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Portland Ore. She was the daughter of Mamie Gates.

Abbie loved traveling, reading, and gardening. She was an excellent seamstress, and she enjoyed ceramics.

She leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Howard Monroe of Cottonwood; her daughter Sharon Kramer; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A viewing will take place on Thursday, March 15, with the Funeral Service and interment will follow on March 16. All services will be held at the Rose Hills Mortuary and Cemetery in Whittier, Calif.

William F. Carnell

William F. "Bill" Carnell, 89, of Camp Verde, died Feb. 27, 2007, in Cottonwood. He was born Dec. 12, 1917, in Halls, Tenn.

He served in World War II in the Navy Seabees, stationed in New Caledonia and Guadalcanal. He was married to the late Mary Ellen Carnell.

He was the former president of Operating Engineers 428. He lived in the Verde Valley for the past 10 and a half years.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Joy; daughters Jane Haddix and Gwen Csoka; stepsons Gary and David Rodes; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for March 18 at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1825 N. Alvernon in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association are appreciated.
