Allen resigns from MUHS

Embattle superintendent says resignation not admission of guilt

Mingus Union High School Superintendent Sharyl Allen resigned Thursday night during a school board meeting. She will stay on the job until June 30.

The school board voted unanimously to accept Allen's resignation.

Allen has been under increasing pressure to answer questions and supply documentation concerning her hiring of a Director of Human Resources. Other questions have come up in relation to board member Jim Ledbetter's inquiry into the matter.

Allen read a prepared statement to the board Thursday night during the board's scheduled meeting. She said it is evident that one board member wants a change. She said allegations have been made in local print and broadcast media.

"I am not resigning because of guilt," Allen said. She said she was resigning because it is the best thing to do for the district.

Ledbetter told the board there are some significant concerns based on Allen's spending practices.

Board president Andy Groseta said he would move quickly to appoint a search committee to find a new superintendent. He said the board might consider hiring an interim superintendent.

"There's been a lot of great things that have happened at this school under your leadership," Groseta told Allen.
