Mingus freshman baseball has perfect season
Up and coming players looking to keep Marauder program strong
The Mingus Union freshman baseball team capped off a perfect season with a 13-5 win over Sinagua on April 28.
The Marauders started the season with a 17-2 win over Bradshaw Mountain, then beat Willow Canyon, a team moving up to 5A next year, 5-0, and Prescott 2-0.
Next up was the start of conference play when they met rival Flagstaff High for three games in the same week. The first game they overcame 10 errors and a snow storm to score eight runs in their final at bat to win 15-9, the next two games were much easier with the Marauders winning 7-2 and 10-0.
The Marauders faced Camp Verde's JV squad winning that with good pitch and defense won 3-0. Next was Coconino another conference foe, they completely dominated and won the three games by scores of 19-0, 12-0 and 7-2.
After that was their make-or-break week with Scottsdale Chaparral, the top baseball program in 4A baseball every year, and Cave Creek Cactus Shadow another one of 4A's top teams.
Against Chaparral the Marauders trailed 4-1 going into their last at bat, but with patient hitting and never say die attitude, they were able to score four runs with no outs to capture the victory 5-4.
The next day they played Cactus Shadows and took care of business easily with a 10-0 win.
That left two games with their final conference opponent Sinagua. The Marauders didn't disappoint and beat the Mustangs by the scores of 8-2 and 13-5.
Going undefeated in baseball at any level is a great feat; the freshman made it happen with great pitching, good hitting, but mostly with hard work and teamwork.
