In 1942, Museum of Northern Arizona scholar and librarian Kathleen Bartlett published what is considered the preeminent study on the routes of Antonio Espejo and Marcos Farfan to the mines in central Arizona (below). Previous scholars believed the mines were new Williams or further west. Bartlett showed they were the rich copper deposits near Jerome.
