Sedona sponsors senior job fair

The City of Sedona and the Sedona Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Mature Workforce Committee of the Arizona Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, will host Sedona's First Forum and Job Fair for Ready-to-Work 50-90 Year Olds on Friday, Sept. 19, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Yavapai College in Sedona, announced Anne Leap, Senior Information Referral Specialist for the City of Sedona. The event is free to participants and includes lunch.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the forum starts promptly at 8:45 a.m. with comments from Anne Leap, Sedona Mayor Rob Adams, Sedona Chamber of Commerce President/ CEO Jennifer Wesselhoff and Northern Arizona Interfaith Council Chair Linda Martinez.

An audience identification of issues facing seniors and employers in the workforce will be led by Barbara Litrell followed by the keynote presentation, "A Report from the Top-The Governor's Initiative on the Mature Workforce," presented by Melanie Starns, Executive Director of the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging.

The second featured presentation will be a panel on "The Workplace in Northern Arizona" moderated by Jodie Filardo, Economic Planner for the City for Sedona. Panelists include Tori Ward, Human Resources Director for the City of Sedona addressing the government job market for seniors, Sheldon Finkelstein, Human Resources Director for ILX Resorts addressing the hospitality job market for seniors, Dennis Garvey, Director of Yavapai College Center for Successful Aging addressing the education job market for seniors, and a representative from Verde Valley Medical Center addressing the health care job market for seniors.

Attendees will then be able to attend two out of five workshops on topics including overcoming your fears of entering a new field, tech skills for today's workplace, locating jobs, developing a good resume, clinching the interview, and staying fit for work.

A special workshop for employers will be conducted by Melanie Starns and will focus on the Arizona State Certification Training for Employers.

The job fair, hosted by the Sedona Chamber of Commerce will include representatives from area companies present to talk about job opportunities and to accept resumes and applications for jobs.
