Gene and Betty Sutter will celebrate their 80th birthdays on Jan. 19 and 20. A family reunion planned by their six children will take place at their Cottonwood home. Eldo "Gene" Sutter was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Lincoln, Ill. He attended schools in Illinois and Michigan. Completing his apprenticeship he became a journeyman carpenter. He also started and owned the Vacu-Maid of Sterling business. Betty Lucille Ebersole was born January 16, 1928 in Sterling, Ill. She graduated from Sterling High School and became an Avon representative. They were married May 15, 1949, made their home and raised their family in Sterling until they moved to Arizona in 1985. Gene joined their son Randy working for Sutter Systems. When the business was sold to Hayman Home Center, Gene worked there until his retirement. He still enjoys woodworking and caning furniture. For five years Betty worked for the Gibson and Hallmark Greeting Card Companies in the local Safeway stores. She has been active in the area Christian Women's Club and continues to enjoy crocheting, reading and writing poetry. Their six children planning the special celebration are Randy of Clarkdale; Peggy of Phoenix; Bonnie of Golden, Colo.; Susan of San Antonio, Texas; Holly of Cottonwood; and Kelly of Granite City Ill. Gene and Betty have also been blessed with 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. They attend Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Cottonwood where Randy is the Senior Pastor.
