Page Springs rollover accident

Page Springs rollover accident

Verde Valley Fire District crews were dispatched to the scene of a one-car rollover accident late Sunday night in the 1300 block of North Page Springs Road. The medium sized sedan blocked the road and driver was trapped inside. She was hanging upside down, still strapped by her seatbelt when crews arrived. The lone occupant indicated she had run up a dirt embankment at the side of the road causing the car to roll over onto its roof. She was extracted from the car and transported to VVMC for evaluation.

Motorcycle accidents on 260

Two motorcyclists, riding in the Thunder Valley Rally Saturday morning, were hospitalized after their bike crashed at milepost 230, just east of the Fossil Creek Road intersection with State Route 260. The male driver was flown by medical helicopter to a Phoenix hospital, while the female passenger was taken by ground ambulance to Verde Valley Medical Center.

The same afternoon, a woman motorcyclist in a separate accident was injured and taken to VVMC after her bike crashed about 3:40 p.m. That accident occurred at milepost 223.

Clarkdale building burns

A 300-square-foot outbuilding was destroyed in Clarkdale early Sunday morning but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The blaze was reported about 3:40 a.m. at a home on Calle Carillo in Centerville. It is unclear the contents of the building though the fire district found a charred set of bedsprings. The fire singed nearby trees but was kept from any residential structures.

Medical equipment theft and fraud

A 61-year-old Cottonwood woman has been arrested, charged with renting medical equipment but then offering to sell the equipment to someone posing as a buyer.

Beverly Burnworth rented the equipment for her ailing mother in November 2007, but allegedly never made the rental payments on the equipment. She rented a concentrator, regulator-oxylite, light weight wheel chair and some portable oxygen tanks. Burnworth also purchased from All Med a standard walker and a bedside commode for her mother.

In March of 2008, her mother passed away.

But repeated calls and attempts to collect from Burnworth or get the equipment returned failed. She reportedly would not answer the door for workers and offered excuses why the equipment could not be returned.

Then workers from the All Med office posed as people needing equipment for an elderly grandmother. According to the allegations, Burnworth offered equipment she had in the garage including two wheelchairs, an oxygen tank and other equipment in the house. She suggested the actors price the equipment at All Med and she would then sell them "her" equipment at half the price. She also offered to sell her mother's clothing and medications.

Armed with a search warrant, Cottonwood Police went to the house and recovered all the rented equipment, which all bore All Med stickers.

Burnsworth was charged with fraud, possession of stolen property, trafficking in stolen property and theft and impounded in the Camp Verde Jail.
