The Cottonwood City Council has agreed to a number of grant request for the region's SWAT team. The team, composed mainly of officers from Cottonwood and Sedona police departments is hoping to better equip its officers.

One grant request to the Arizona Department of Homeland Security seeks training tuition for six SWAT members to attend a federally approved SWAT training course. If approved, the grant would be fully funded at $27,000.

Another grant request seeks to provide five sets of night vision goggles and helmet mounts for officers. Again, the grant is fully funded at $19,155, if approved.

The largest grant request would outfit the Special Weapons and Tactics Team with an Armored Response Vehicle.

The vehicle would provide protection for 50-caliber gunfire, explosive gas protection and is capable of holding stretchers for emergency evacuation.

The transport vehicle, a Lenco BearCat CBRNE Vehicle is valued at $237,110 and is fully-funded, if approved, without a local matching contribution.

The final grant request would seek funding for self-contained breathing equipment.
