Clarkdale to make sales tax decision

Council also likely to increase sewer rates

The Clarkdale Town Council likely will vote to raise the town's sales tax during its regular meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m.

During the council's last meeting, it voted to direct staff to develop an ordinance to increase the sales tax by 0.75 percent. That amount would increase the basic sales tax from 2.25 percent to 3 percent. It also would increase the sales tax on construction activities from the current 3.25 percent to 4 percent.

Another agenda item calls for a public hearing so the council may receive comments on the proposed sewer fee rate increase. After the hearing, the council will consider a resolution to set new rates.

The proposed rates would increase to $28 per month for residential users. For commercial users, the base rate of $28 will apply with a usage fee of $2.25 per 1,000 gallons of water in excess of 5,000 gallons per month.
