Friday was a momentous day for the Cottonwood Fire Department. In the works for nearly a decade, the Cottonwood Fire District finally got its second fire engine crew on board this week by accepting 12 new firefighters into their ranks. Over 150 qualified firefighters applied for the 12 slots, so the dozen chosen are considered the crème de le crème of the pack. Following a week of training that prepared the new recruits for the Cottonwood FD procedures and protocols, the new firefighters were sworn in at a badge pinning ceremony Friday afternoon that included many friends and family present. Many of the 12 went on to play in the annual Guns vs. Hoses flag football game held at MUHS. The game is part fun and part benefit for the MUHS Marauders Football Team - the firefighters were victorious in their match with the Cottonwood Police department, winning with a score of 60 to 40. Cottonwood's new fire engine crew is (from left to right) Greg Gaise, Alex Lewis, Cameron Atkinson, Brandon Wacker, Patrick McInnis, Landon Scates, Denver Hughes, Bryan Smith, Ryan Contreras, Sean James, Joe Odell and Jeremy Doerksen.
