Letter: What a wonderful, memorable 85th birthday party

Editor:

I would like to thank all of my children and their families for the wonderful 85th birthday party given for me at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 2: Donna Schwab, Kathy Wombacher, Terry Karosck, Pat Carpenter, Skip Osborne, Barbie Duncan, Debbie Flyers, Kelly Osborne, Casey Osborne, Joanna Loehr, Sheila Franquero and all their wonderful spouses.

Next I would like to thank all of my wonderful and loving friends from the past and present 50 years for attending and the wonderful cards and flowers. Also thanks to my brother Kenneth Carter and his two sons, Chris, Sean and wives.

I outdid the president on his birthday. I was delivered by my son Kelly in his helicopter that he built himself. When asked if I was frightened, I said "No! That is probably as close to 'Heaven' as I will ever get!" I would like to thank all my wonderful friends for all the loving support you have given Jim and I in raising our 11 children whether you be relative, teacher, doctors, neighbors or friends. Were Jim still here, I know he would feel the same

I am blessed to have most of my children (adults now) close by. Seven and their children returned to live in Verde Valley. They are all very giving of themselves to continue making Verde Valley a wonderful place to live. One son lives in Flagstaff, one daughter and one son live in Phoenix and another daughter and family live in Farmington, New Mexico.

Thank you kids and all my friends in the Verde Valley for allowing me these wonderful memories of the past 50 years of living in this beautiful valley.

Also for the privilege of working in the old and the new present Marcus J. Lawrence Hospital and later at Cottonwood Oak Creek School system.

Three of the most important things I have learned in my 85 years:

1. Not to criticize another person until you have walked in their shoes.

2. Try to keep a sense of humor.

3. The most important one to me is my faith in the man upstairs.

God bless each and every one of you. I shall never forget this event. I love you all very much.
