Barbara Jo Dierks

Barbara Jo Dierks, 47, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at her home, following a 2 1/2 year battle with liver cancer.

Barb was born on June 15, 1961 in Carroll, Iowa to Merlin & Mary Lou (Schettler) Kraus. She was a 1979 graduate of Anita High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Buena Vista College in 1983.

Barb was a gifted artist whose spirit for life and love of the arts will live on in the poignant drawings and uniquely painted furniture she created. For several years she sold her original hand painted creations through her business, "Farmhouse Designs," and by consignment.

Barb is survived by her husband, Duke Dierks, whom she married on December 20, 2003; her sons, Brandon Husmann and Michael Husmann, and her daughter, Kim Husmann and her stepson, Dacen Dierks, all of Cedar Falls, her parents, Merlin and Mary Lou Kraus of Anita, IA, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Sidney) Stepp of Clinton, TN, Donna (Denny) Culbertson of Omaha, NE, Darlene (Mark) Littleton of Lexington, OH and Annette (David) Raubvogel of Seattle, WA, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mike (Ruthie) Kraus of Anita, IA. Her memory will also be cherished by her parents-in-law, Darrell and Pat Dierks of Cottonwood, AZ, brother-in-law Dane (Cindy) Dierks, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and sister-in-law, Dawn (Dan) Luna of Davenport, IA. Barb is also survived by her nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and many dear friends.

Barb will be remembered as someone who devoted her life to her beloved family and, most of all, to her Lord and Savior. A member of Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, Barb had a strong understanding of God's word and was eager to help others understand God's word and His purpose in their lives.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Orchard Hill Church with Rev. Ed Baker officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
