Crunch Time on Cornville Road

Verde Valley Fire District was dispatched to a multi-vehicle T-bone accident Friday afternoon. A Buick and a Pontiac sedan had collided at Verde Santa Fe Parkway at Cornville Road. The single occupant in each of the vehicles was wearing a seat belt and air bags deployed. Still, both patients sustained substantial injuries and one driver had to be extricated. The driver's side of that vehicle was struck and caved-in and firefighters used the "jaws of life" to remove the patient, while other medics stabilized the woman from the passenger side of the vehicle. Both patients, after being treated and stabilized were transported to Verde Valley Medical Center for further attention. The accident took place right in the middle of Cornville Road, so traffic was tied up during the extrication. This extrication equipment was recently obtained through the Governor's Highway Safety Grant.
