A Yavapai Sheriff's detention officer was arrested and booked into the Camp Verde Jail last Thursday. Clifton Stallings, 52, who has worked as a detention officer for nearly three years, has been charged with a single count of unauthorized communication with a prisoner.

An investigation began several weeks ago when detectives learned that Stallings allegedly had been communicating with an inmate regarding matters not related to duties as a detention officer. Stallings had also been seen passing unauthorized literature to the inmate in violation of statute, according to the report. Once the information was confirmed, Stallings was placed on administrative leave with pay.

The criminal investigation concluded that unlawful violations had occurred and Stallings was arrested during a meeting at the Camp Verde Detention Center. Stallings was released with a court appearance summons for the misdemeanor violation. He remains on administrative leave, without pay. An investigation continues to determine whether Stallings had any other prohibited inmate contact,
