Cottonwood's Jillian Eisenga wins MATForce Poster Contest

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Captain Steve Francis congratulates Jillian Eisenga of American Heritage School for her First Place Award in the MATForce Poster Contest.

COTTONWOOD -- MATForce announces that Jillian Eisenga, a 10th-grade student from American Heritage School in Cottonwood, is the first-place winner of the MATForce Poster Contest held in April to recognize Substance Abuse Awareness Month. Jillian won $300 for her poster, which reminds all to "Say Nope to Dope." The poster will be featured on MATForce substance abuse awareness materials throughout 2009.

Six-hundred students throughout Yavapai County participated in the contest. Captain Steve Francis of the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office and a member of the MATForce Steering Committee said, "Each of the posters submitted depicted a strong anti-drug abuse message. With so many outstanding entries, the judges had a difficult task choosing the winners. We wish to thank all students who participated in this contest and commend their outstanding efforts to spread the anti-substance abuse message."

Aubrey Alvey, an 8th-grade student at Cottonwood Middle School, earned second place in the contest winning $200. The Third Place winner of $100 was Miranda Greer, a 12th grade student of Mayer High School. A special Yavapai College tuition credit award was awarded to Taylor Haynes, a 9th grade student at Prescott High School.

Students who received Honorable Mention Awards received a t-shirt and jump drive. Winners included: Abby Musgove, Heritage Middle School; Allyson E., Taylor Hicks Elementary; Beth Anyalbin, Canyon; Jamie Nichols, Mingus Springs Charter School; Jayna Wagster, Mountain View Elementary School; Josh Serin, West Sedona School; Justin Pacheco, Bagdad Elementary; Kati Phelps, Mingus Union HS; Kylie Yuntz; Lindsey Koeppe, Mingus Union HS; Mason Dewey, Tavasci Elementary; Matt Joannes, Mile High MS; Sara Davidson, Lincoln School; Sirilak Saengsawang, Cottonwood MS; Stephanie Garcia, Glassford Hill MS; Taylor Haynes, Prescott HS; Tori Mathews, Camp Verde HS.

Other outstanding posters earned "Road Show" recognition as they will be displayed at various MATForce events. Students earning this recognition included: Kenia Estrada, Mingus Union HS; Frida Contreras, Bagdad HS; Charelle Burson, COCSD; Arron Flanigein, GHMS; Jazmine Fullbright, Camp Verde HS; Garett Huston, Canyon School; Kalyssa Valley.
