COTTONWOOD - Three longtime Verde Valley residents have formed a partnership to open and run A Checkered Past Antiques at 907 N. Main St. in Old Town Cottonwood. The business is a multi-dealer mall offering antiques and collectibles.
Pat Tuthill operated an antique shop in McGuireville for years and has had antique booths in other shops in the Verde Valley. She also worked at several antique stores in the Valley.
Sharon Smoot used to own an antique mall in Glendale before coming to the Verde Valley 13 years ago. She has rented space at other local antique shops until deciding to go into this partnership.
Peg Sarkisian just can't stop collecting, she says. She has been an antique dealer for years. She also started doing estate sales and is a certified appraiser.
"We are doing what we love," Sarkisian said, "and are so lucky to have husbands that understand our need to collect."
The ladies all agree that the Verde Valley, especially Old Town, has the charm of the old West and will always draw people who want to relax and enjoy that charm.
A Checkered Past Antiques offers far too many items to list, but some of the prominent pieces are Native American, China, porcelain, sterling, art glass, furniture, quilts and pottery.
The ladies' business slogan is: "Rain or Shine ... Hot or Cold ... Come on In ... Before it is Sold."
Hours are 10 to 5 Monday through Saturday and 11 to 4 Sunday.
