Saturday's inaugural Airport Appreciation Day was a great success by any measure. The event struck a note for both residents of the Verde Valley and allowed aviation enthusiasts an opportunity to show off their flying projects to the public.
The day began early with a hot air balloon liftoff at 6:30 am, followed by a pancake breakfast in one of several hangers at the airport. On display were a slew of vintage planes and automobiles, as well as ultra-lights and experimental aircraft. Visitors were treated to several flight formations by military aircraft later in the day to honor both servicemen and their flying machines.
