CAMP VERDE - A few years back, the congregation of Parkside Community Church seized on the idea of using a holiday, traditionally given over to the dark side, to promote family and community.
Thus was born the Parkside Church Fall Fun Night.
Every year, on or about Halloween, the church invites the public over for an evening of food, music, tricks, treats, games, nonsense and...well...fun.
Last year an estimated over 600 kids of all ages attended. This year they are planning for 1,000.
The party will take place on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 11 p.m. Parkside Community Church is located across the street from the Camp Verde School District offices, 410 Camp Lincoln Road.
To ensure there is something for everyone, they have more than 50 separate events planned.
There will be an inflatable obstacle course, a rock climbing wall, a bungee-trampoline jumpy kinda thing, karaoke, a DJ, food vendors (H & H Barbecue, Dip and Dots Ice Cream, Beelers Ice Cream, Italian ice, hot dogs, Mexican food) and a chili cook off.
There will also be a dino-dig, the arctic pond, duck and pig race, cowboy golf and face painting. Come in costume, plan on "trunk or treating" for candy and beware of the roaming kissing booth.
"We want this to be a truly community wide event," says Parkside children's pastor Karen Hall. "We are hoping families will come and plan on spending the entire evening."
A $5 admission fee is good for all events. Food is extra. For additional information contact Parkside Church at (928) 567-3577.
