August sales tax collections up in Jerome, Cottonwood

Collections down in rest of Verde Valley

VERDE VALLEY - An increase in the sales tax rate has improved Cottonwood's revenue. A similar increase in Clarkdale hasn't helped, yet.

For months, Cottonwood has seen increases in retail, total and year-to-date sales tax collections over the same period a year ago. The city can thank a sales tax increase for its improved revenue.

In August, Cottonwood's retail sales tax collections climbed to $560,338 from $461,523 for the same month last year. Total sales tax revenue also jumped from $765,788 in August 2008 to $901,020 this August.
