The Verde Valley Sinfonietta is pleased to announce its "Emerging Artist" Concert with performances Saturday, April 24, 7 p.m., in Cottonwood at the Emmanuel Fellowship Church, 1580 E. Fir St., and again Sunday afternoon, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. in Sedona at the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, 390 Dry Creek Road.

Tickets are $10 for adults, free for children under age 18, are available at the door or in advance at Bashas', Rte 89A West Sedona, Weber's IGA, Verde Valley School Road in the Village of Oak Creek and Planet Video in Cottonwood.

Music Director and conductor David Cripps notes that the Verde Valley Sinfonietta loves to vary its programs and April is no exception.  He plans to feature two delightful works by French master Maurice Ravel, and two from the mainstream of the great German repertoire, namely Robert Schumann and Ludwig van Beethoven.  The program begins with Ravel's "Mother Goose" suite of five movements for orchestra.  These include "Beauty and the Beast" and the "Enchanted Garden." It is Schumann's anniversary year (he was born in 1810), so it is entirely fitting that the Sinfonietta welcome Anna Han to play his Piano Concerto, Op. 54, one of the great romantic works of the nineteenth century.  The piece was completed in 1845 and first performed in Leipzig on January 1st, 1846, with Schumann's wife Clara as soloist.  After the intermission the orchestra will play the "Pavane for a Dead Princess," one of Ravel's most captivating and endearing shorter works.  The concert will end with the mighty Beethoven - his Symphony No 8, Op. 93.
