60th Anniversary

Vernon and Ruby Schmidt are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on August 27, 2010. They met on a blind date while attending Walla Walla College. Vernon was an Army Air Corp veteran attending college on the GI Bill. The blind date went well and they continued to see each other. Vernon and Ruby were married in St. Louis, Missouri, Ruby’s home town. Their first year of marriage was also their senior year in college. Both graduated in 1951. Vernon was an elementary teacher and then a high school teacher. His subjects were geometry, biology, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry. Ruby taught home economics and became a registrar and librarian on the secondary level. Since retirement both have been active in the Cottonwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Ruby enjoyed being a member of the Quail Country Quilters for several years and served as pastor’s Secretary for the church.
