Verde Valley sales tax report mixed

Sedona and Jerome up in three major categories

VERDE VALLEY - Of the three sales tax categories used each month by the Arizona Dept. of Revenue report for the five Verde Valley communities, the increases outnumber the decreases 8 to 7 for October compared with the same period last year.

The categories included each month are retail sales tax for the month, total sales tax for the month and year-to-date total sales tax. The report is compiled from the monthly tax collections report from the Office of Economic Research and Analysis of the Arizona Department of Revenue.

Cottonwood and Camp Verde lost ground in October over last year in all three categories. Clarkdale lost ground in one category but gained in two categories. Jerome and Sedona picked up ground in October over last year in all three categories.

Cottonwood dropped in retail sales tax for October from $556,493 last year to $537,273 this year. In total sales tax, the city dropped from $903,990 last October to $835,100 for the same month this year.

Year-to-date total sales tax in Cottonwood also dropped through October from $3,572,752 last year to $3,401,276 for this year.

Camp Verde took in $42,087 in retail sales tax for October, a drop from the $44,157 collected last year. In total sales tax, the city dropped to $139,669 from $157,396 last October.

Year-to-date total sales tax also went down in October for Camp Verde from $675,253 last year to $601,132 for the same period this year.

Clarkdale dropped in retail sales tax for October from $4,828 last year to $3,155 this year. But the town increased its total sales tax revenue for October from $49,795 last year to $57,195 for this October.

Year-to-date total sales tax revenue also climbed for Clarkdale, rising from $194,595 through October last year to $232,625 for the same period this year.

Jerome was up in retail sales tax to $19,857 from $17,240 in October 2009. Total sales tax revenue went up to $54,320 for October from $41,571 last year.

Jerome's year-to-date sales tax collections through October went up from $156,131 in 2009 to $192,913 for the same period this year.

Sedona went up in retail sales tax revenue from $254,649 last October to $257,954 this October. The city also went up in total sales tax for October to $1,105,755 from $1,089,433 last year.

Year-to-date sales tax revenue in Sedona went up through October to $4,186,640 from $4,154,205 for the same period last year.
