Business group gets overview of Big Park Council

Good Day All,

The featured speaker at Sedona Village Business Association monthly membership meeting in December at Sedona Hilton Resort and Spa was Dorothy O'Brien, President of the Big Park Regional Coordinating Council.

Dorothy gave a Power-point presentation about the Big Park Council beginning with its origin in 1996 with the approval of the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors. Its mission is basically to seek solutions to problems that affect the Big Park/Village community.

From the initial 12 members of the Council it has grown today to 27 members consisting of Home Owner's Associations and Business Associations. The Council has standing committees as follows: Planning and Zoning, Parks & Recreation and Youth Activities, and Transportation with Current Ad Hoc Committees consisting of a Bylaws Review Committee, Community Plan Review Committee and a Vision and Enhancement Committee. The Big Park Regional Coordinating Council is our community's liaison to our Board of Supervisors and all the Departments of Yavapai County government. When we have a need for the County to address any issue, it is normally the Council which is the first step is any resolution process.

You do not have to be a member of the Council to participate in it. An individual can participate directly by working on one or more of its various committees. Learn more about the Council on its excellent website: www.BigParkCouncil.org.

The monthly meetings are held at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Fire Station #2 (the one in our community). All are welcome to attend the meetings.

Also at the SVBA December meeting, James Wagner, Senior Manager from Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA) gave a brief presentation of the current LYNX public transit system including its history, ridership, routes and cost. We are looking forward to hearing more from NAIPTA/LYNX in the future concerning an expansion of public transportation for our area.
