COTTONWOOD - Margie Austin moved Margie's Barber Shop on New Year's Day and opened Jan. 4 at 657 E. Cottonwood St., Suite 8C. She had been at 501 N. Main St. for more than six years.
She specializes in haircuts and, although she cuts hair for both men and women, she says she cuts hair for more men than women.
"I've been in the Verde Valley doing hair for close to 13 years," she said.
She uses no chemicals. "I offer haircuts and that's really it," she said. "I'm real simple, real straightforward."
Margie said she just tries to give people the best haircuts she can give them. To that end, she doesn't hurry through a haircut. So she likes to work by appointment so clients aren't kept waiting. But she still does the occasional walk-in haircut.
Her attention to each client's hair has paid off for Margie with lots of clients. "My new clients are mostly word of mouth," she said.
It was her reaction to chemicals that guided Margie into limiting her business to haircuts. "I started out as a beautician," she said. But then she became allergic to the chemicals. She went to work for a big barbershop.
"I opened my own shop about six and a half years ago," she said.
