Mingus board to discuss unification Thursday

COTTONWOOD -- Unification will be on the agenda Thursday when the Mingus Union High School Governing Board meets at 6:30 p.m. Discussion began last week between the MUHS and Cottonwood-Oak Creek districts on the possibility of the two districts unifying into a single district.

C-OC district had unification on Tuesday night's meeting agenda. A public forum on the subject has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Mingus auditorium.

The MUHS agenda for Thursday has two items related to unification. The first is for discussion and possible action on a "Joint Governing Board Resolution of Cottonwood-Oak Creek Elementary School District and Mingus Union High School District to do one or more of the following:"

The first option is to form a resolution to study unification. The second is to form a resolution in support of consolidation and unification. The third option is to hold a public forum (which has already been scheduled).

The second agenda item calls for the board to discuss options, and maybe take action, on forming a new structure for board membership in case of unification.

The MUHS board meets in the school cafeteria at 1801 E. Fir St. in Cottonwood.
