Goodbye Dr. Jay

The Cottonwood City Council honored a friend, community servant and avid volunteer Dr. Jay Fleischman during its council meeting Tuesday. A plaque was presented to Fleischman's friend, Bobbie Jo Gooslin, in memory of "Dr. Jay," who died of cancer Monday. Mayor Diane Joens read a lengthy tribute to Fleishman, remembering him as "a great person with a sense of humor." He had been an active contributor to the Cottonwood Library and an "award-winning medical library." As a master gardener, he was an enthusiastic advocate for the community garden. A scholarship fund in his parents' names benefits students who go on to college. Councilwoman Karen Pfeifer hefted squash and beets freshly picked from Fleishman's garden plot to show the council audience.
