Pickup Takes Extreme Spill South of Camp Verde

A teen boy was flown to the Flagstaff hospital after the pickup truck in which he was riding Saturday morning tore through the Interstate 17 guardrail and rolled down a steep embankment. The slope at MP 381, south of Camp Verde, is estimated to drop 200 to 300 feet below the highway. The Ford F-150 king cab pickup, which was northbound landed on its roof at the bottom of that slope. The teen was seat-belted and, remarkably, was conscious and alert when Camp Verde emergency crews reached him. A DPS Ranger helicopter used a short-haul technique to lift the patient out of the canyon to the roadway where the young man was loaded onto a medical air ambulance to be transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.
