Grand Marshall Juanita Morrell has never missed a Fourth of July parade, but remarkably, it will be the first time she has ever ridden in one.

Morrell was chosen this year for the same reason most of the grand marshals for Beaver Creek's Fourth of July Parade are chosen - her selfless efforts to build a better community and to help those who need a little help.

"She is a jewel. We shouldn't have waited this long," says Wyona Jaffe of the Beaver Creek Kiwanis, sponsors of the parade and designators of the grand marshal.

Morrell says she is proud to do whatever she is asked to do for the place she calls home.

"I just love it here," she says.
