Gregory Hull art exhibit at Yavapai College

Through Nov. 4

The Friends of Verde Arts is hosting a reception for the opening of a solo exhibition of the paintings of Gregory Hull at the Verde Gallery on the Yavapai College Campus on Friday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Gregory Hull, resident of Sedona and a nationally recognized leader in the fields of Contemporary Realism and Plein Air Painting, travels to scenic locations in order to capture the images alla prima, or all at once. Working with an instinct developed from many years of study and practice, he designs with strong compositional elements and simple forms and quickly records the major chords of color and light within the space of two or three hours.

“We learn from every painting and more than anything else, it’s in the process where we learn.†Gregory Hull said. “The finished product is just that, the residue of our investigation. While we can learn from studying the good and bad elements of our paintings, sometimes it’s good to move forward and keep painting.†

The exhibition runs from Friday, Oct. 8, through Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Verde Gallery on the Verde Valley Campus of Yavapai College in Clarkdale. The gallery is free to the public, and is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 6 p.m., and Fridays by appointment. Group and school tours are welcome.
