Hunting

I worked on a project for a friend most of the day and mid afternoon Corky and I headed into town, stopped by and visited with a few friends before heading down to Bubbling Ponds in Page Springs to do some hunting (camera only). It was a great day for duck hunting with low clouds, overcast skies and occasional light rain. Reminded me of the days when I used to cut school to go hunt ducks in the Minnesota River bottoms near Shakopee. We didn't always cut school to go down to the bottoms and hunt, there were after all the weekends when school was not in session. The northern ducks are beginning to arrive, but I didn't get a shot of them I liked ... I did get a sequence of a Blue Heron taking off by one of the ponds though. I had a very good focus, but even 1/320th of a second wasn't enough to stop the wing tips as they completed a powerful beat whilst launching into the air. Hope you like the shot.

Need to get back down to the ponds later this week and spend some time shooting photos of greenheads launching themselves into flight. Got some great ones early this year and need to try for better ones this fall. I get my new Olympus E-5 body on Wednesday, so maybe that will do the job for me; kinda like golf where the latest and greatest equipment is well known to produce better shot making than last year's equipment. I think my brother Bruce got me going on that track ... if I got golf shoes that would take strokes off my game, new perimeter weighted irons more strokes off, lessons more strokes. I did the math and it seemed that for a couple thousand dollars I would be a pro...never happened of course but it was fun and also got me into the club making business and a distributorship for Aldila golf shafts for a number of years. The whole idea was that by buying in volume, my own clubs would be less expensive. It was fun; my golf game never got better than low eighties but it I enjoyed it; the camaraderie more than the game ... then I discovered soaring and golf faded away.

have a wonderful day today and don't stay indoors lest you decide to reform yourself!

Cheers

Ted

I'll not bother to reform myself today.

Perhaps tomorrow --- if it is raining,

and I must stay indoors, and meditate

on the shortcomings of life.
