In response to Nathan S. White’s lengthy letter to the editor of June 19:
I’m tired of conservatives like White thinking I’m less American and less patriotic because I simply disagree with their political policies.
I’m tired of conservatives continually cutting taxes on the wealthy then blaming liberals for our nation’s deficits.
I’m tired of conservatives subsidizing large corporations that use the money to pay their executives huge bonuses for shipping jobs overseas.
I’m tired of conservatives like those in our Republican-dominated legislature who take money from our schools and the poor to give yet another tax break to corporations.
I’m tired of conservatives like Russell Pearce who call public education “socialism.”
And I’m tired of conservatives blaming the poor and middle class for being lazy when they can’t find a decent job.
I’m tired of conservatives who want to let Big Oil and other big corporations have their way with our precious environment. And I’m tired of conservatives who believe in privatizing the profits of large corporations while socializing their losses.
I’m tired of conservatives who, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, question President Obama’s citizenship, calling him a Kenyan and a Muslim – all the while ignoring his Irish heritage.
I’m tired of conservatives calling President Obama a socialist for trying to fix our economy and the out-of-control costs of our health care system.
I’m tired of conservatives blaming the nation’s debt on President Obama when the vast majority of it was created by Presidents Reagan and Bush. And I’m tired of conservatives who hate our government.
I’m tired of conservatives trying to force their religious beliefs on me and the children in our schools. (My ancestors left Europe and fought in the Revolution for religious freedom.)
I’m tired of conservatives telling victims of incest and rape that they have to deliver the resulting babies. I’m tired of conservatives calling the educated and informed “elitist.”
I’m tired of our nation’s lax gun laws that let criminals and the mentally ill buy semi-automatic handguns and assault rifles without so much as a background check.
I’m tired of the military-industrial complex and our enormous military budget.
I’m tired of watching young men and women going off to war. (I recently discovered that our nation has been at war all but 33 of its 236-year history since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.)
And, most of all, I’m tired of the meanness so prominently displayed on Fox News Channel, Rush Limbaugh and virtually any gathering of Teapublicans.
