Local businesses team up to feed those in need

Most people are familiar with Georgie’s Cafe in Cottonwood and their Thanksgiving Dinners program where they feed those in need on Thanksgiving Day free of charge.  Last year, they served 1,558 dinners and are preparing for 1,600 this year.  Getting there, however takes a lot of hard work, donations and dedication from many.  Georgie’s has held car washes and raffles and now, Acme Pizzaria, with help from their neighbors at KC’s Family Tae Kwon Do, have taken up the cause and are focusing their energies this season in raising funds for Georgie’s.

Acme Pizzeria donated a raffle prize of 2 Premium Seat Tickets to the popular Christmas Band Trans-Siberian Orchestra for their concert on December 30th in Phoenix.  Acme will be selling raffle tickets for this prize at their shop, along with KC’s Family Tae Kwon Do student leaders throughout the community, in order to raise funds.  “The tickets are valued at $800 on the website right now,” said Acme Owner Roland Oates.  He went on to say they hope to raise over $1,000 to present to Georgie’s Owners, Peggy Reed and John Roske.

Those wishing to help out by purchasing raffle tickets can do so at Acme Pizzaria, located at 280 S. Main Street or through a KC’s Family Tae Kwon Do member.  Tickets are $1 or six tickets for $5.  The drawing will be held on Nov. 20 and the winner will be notified soon thereafter.  Georgie’s is located at 517 N. 12th Street in Cottonwood and will serve dinner free of charge on Thanksgiving Day starting at 11am and continuing until 4 p.m. For more information of the fundraiser please contact Ronilee Oates, at Acme Pizzaria 634-2263.
