COTTONWOOD – No matter what you’re looking for – if it has to do with team or individual sports equipment, apparel or accessories – you’ll likely find it at Big Five Sporting Goods in Cottonwood. The new store opened on Veterans Day at 745 S. Main St.

“We carry team and individual sporting goods,” said store manager Adam Hill.

The store had its “soft opening” Nov. 11. Hill said the store had very good traffic for the weekend. “Our advertised opening is the day after Thanksgiving,” Hill said.

Big Five has about 400 stores spread throughout 12 western states. Stores provide full-line product offerings in a traditional sporting goods store format, averaging about 11,000 square feet.

The product mix in individual sports is extensive, covering hunting, fishing, camping, running, exercise, golf, tennis, snow sports, and many more – even yoga. Team sports include basketball, baseball, softball, football, soccer and volleyball.

“We even carry a small selection of radio controlled cars,” Hill said.

For hunters, Big Five carries clothing, ammo and sporting arms, including paintball and soft air and accessories.

“We’ll get rifles and shotguns in eventually,” Hill said. “We will carry game and fishing licenses.”

Fishing equipment includes freshwater rods and reels, lures and bait, and vests and hats.

Sportsmen and women will find a good selection of scopes and binoculars.

The shoe selection is extensive, including athletic shoes, boots for hunting, hiking and work and also casual shoes. Shoes come in sizes for men, women and kids.

For personal fitness, Big Five handles all kinds of exercise and weight equipment, including running apparel and performance measure accessories such as pedometers and heart monitors.

The golfer will find everything from clubs and balls to gloves and shoes. Tennis players have a selection of rackets and balls, as well as shoes.

Even people practicing yoga will find specialized clothing, bands and mats.

Although the store is opening with a full staff, Hill said, “We always accept part-time applications for sales and cashiers.”

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
