Don't do drugs ... and drive

COTTONWOOD -- A Cottonwood patrol officer pulled over an older model Mercedes Benz on Main Street just before midnight Tuesday, after seeing the vehicle had a faulty taillight. The car smelled of strong cologne and marijuana, according to the report. Since the driver had bent over, before the officer approached, the officer asked if there were guns. The driver said no, but when he was asked if there was marijuana or other drugs, he said nothing.

The police K-9 Rio was brought to the traffic stop and alerted on the vehicle, giving the officers probable cause to search. Inside, they found a glass/metal pipe with burned residue and two baggies containing 5.5 grams of marijuana and a lighter.

The 16-year-old driver was charged with DUI/drugs and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was released to his family. Taylor Salyers, 19, was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and released. Both are Cottonwood residents.
