Cottonwood boy accused of assaulting mother
COTTONWOOD - Cottonwood Police were dispatched just before noon Sunday to a domestic violence call in the 200 block of S. 11th St., Cottonwood. A woman at the address reported that her son had kicked her in the stomach. The arriving officers found the woman, standing in the driveway talking on the phone.
The boy was lying on his bed watching TV when officers entered the house.
He said that on Saturday he and his eight-year old brother had gone to the Family Dollar Store and crossed SR 89A to get there. Before the incident, his mom found out they crossed the busy street and began yelling at him. At that point the 14-year-old began cursing at his mother and she went to where he was lying and slapped him a couple of times. He then used his bare foot to kick his mother back
away from him.
The mother said she confronted the boy about taking the 8-year-old across the highway and took away his cell phone as punishment.
He began calling her offensive names and she slapped him twice on the mouth. When he kicked her in the stomach in reaction to the slaps, she called police.
The woman said she had no injuries from being kicked.
The police told the woman to make arrangements to have the young boy stay with his grandmother for the night, but the officer said he would be referred to juvenile detention.
The 14-year old is charged with two domestic violence offenses: assault and disorderly conduct.
