Reed teaches steps to better photography

Popular Sedona Arts Center photography instructor Susie Reed will be teaching a new four-part class for photographers of all levels who love taking pictures and want to improve their work. It will held be on Sundays 1-4 p.m. and Mondays 6-9 p.m., Sept. 11-19, at the Sedona Arts Center in the Gallery Building's South Studio.

In this class, award-winning fine art and commercial photographer Susie Reed will explore what can be done at photo shoots and after to help create better pictures. She'll share insights she's gained from over 30 years behind the camera. She'll explain the best types and sizes of files to create for print, the Internet and projection. She'll demonstrate effective Photoshop tools, discuss composition, criteria to use for editing, give thought provoking assignments and do individual critiques to help students hone their skills and effectively present their work. She'll provide tips for entering photo contests, based on her experience judging several and discuss the role inspiration; instincts and intuition play in the creative process.

Susie Reed's critically acclaimed work has been exhibited in the International Museum of Photography, the Cooper Hewitt Museum, the De Young Museum and elsewhere. Her pictures have been in numerous publications and on an array of products that have sold worldwide including several editions of her Southwest Rock Art and other beautiful photographic calendars. Some of Reed's prehistoric rock art photos are permanently displayed in Sedona Visitor and Information Centers through the generosity of a Sedona Arts and Cultural Commission Artist Project Grant. She shows her fine art photography at Goldenstein Gallery, voted the best gallery in Sedona the last three years by the readers of Kudos. Reed was a featured speaker at 2010 Sedona Photofest and will be conducting a photo shoot workshop at 2012 Sedona PhotoFest. She is the director of the Red Rock Open Photo Competition and previously taught at California College of the Arts and San Francisco Art Institute.

Fee for the four sessions is $120 (associates $108).
