Sept 16-17-18 marks the first Fine Art and Craft show of the fall season at the Factory Outlets in the Village of Oakcreek. There will be many painters attending this show, including June Hart, Larry Beck, Steve Simon, Crystal Carol, Mark Vranesh, Barbara Barkley, Judith Durr, Roger Kull, and Jim Todd. Many of these artists are local, and the newest local addition to the show is Jim Todd.
Jim Todd is a Village resident and has been painting since he was 10 years old. He has won over 50 awards for his work, including the 1992 Artist of the Year award from the greater St Louis Art Association. He is a still life painter in the surrealism school, although he paints traditional still lifes as well. He has an ability to show intricate details to the viewer, who feel as if they can reach in and grasp the objects and has established himself in the Trompe l'oeil tradition. His surrealistic chess paintings are among some of his favorite creations, and he has done a series of them to express his unique vision of the world that surrounds us.
Also new to the show is an artist who works in a stained glass technique, but uses glass jewels and prisms to make wonderful Suncatchers and plant rooters. This is a medium that is getting hard to find, so it is exciting that Marilyn Alexander is bringing these creations.
She has attended the Fountain Hills Art Show, Carefree Art and Wine, and the La Quinta Art Show, among others.
Attending this show will be Mel Mendez with his handwoven rug creations, a many time award winner at numerous art shows, local artists with beautiful jewelry, soaps, Painted gourds, crystal hangings, photography, and fused glass. There will also be metal art, Mata Ortiz pottery, hats, and Native American jewelry and pottery.
The Factory Outlets are located on Hwy 179 in the Village of Oak Creek. There are many fine stores to peruse, and start your Christmas shopping at the art show and the stores.
The hours are 9 to 6 each day. For more information, please call 928-284-9627 or visit www.bellrockartshows.com
