COTTONWOOD -- A 30-year-old father, who lives in the 200 block of Sixth Street, was arrested and charged with child abuse and aggravated assault per domestic violence.
A 28-year-old woman contacted Cottonwood police to reported that her husband, had been abusing their 10-month-old son. The boy had moderate bruising to the front of his upperright leg that appeared to be a few days old.
The woman said, because Daniel Miranda did not have a job, she had to go to work to support the family. Tuesday, she returned from work to find bruises on the boy. Miranda told her that he roughly picked up the boy from a high chair where he scraped his leg. When the child began crying, Miranda said he spanked him and had bruised him. She felt this discipline to be inappropriate for a 10-month-old child.
She said she had already talked to CPS and they told her to report the incident to police.
The woman said she is afraid of Daniel Miranda because he has a temper and gets violent. She also said he had a semi-auto pistol "like the one you have" that he keeps in the closet, but is now missing.
Miranda was arrested and jailed Thursday.
